Activities
• Have students write stories or draw pictures of their imaginary friends.
• Assign a letter-writing project. Students may write letters to and from their imaginary friends.
• In our interview with the Klise sisters, Kate wonders if there’s an island for imaginary friends, an Imagine Nation. Create your classroom’s own Imagine Nation. Ask students to think about what types of laws would prevail and what kind of government would rule this land. Describe or draw the national flag.
• Discuss the importance of revising one’s work. Use the sketches for the cover of Imagine Harry (below) to show how the image changed—from the first sketch to the final art—to illustrate this point.
